how to determine transom height

i am not going to go with a bracket on the 21' so i need to know how to measure the new core. im going to go with a 30" and if i find a cheap motor with a 25" shaft ill just cut it, but how do i make the transom for a 30" shaft, is it just the keel to the top?

hope this makes sense!

Re: how to determine transom height

you got it right. from keel to top of transom.

some manufacturers made the transom an inch or two longer than the motor to keep cavitation plate out of water. make it 30" and raise the motor on the bolts if needed.
