Making a Seat.
I finally got around to finishing the little seat that I had started 4 months ago. I saw something like this on the silverhawk's so I decided to copy it. I first made a little mold out of 1/2 inch MDF. Used bondo and molding clay to make the corners round inside the mold (sorry got lazy no pics) After some sanding of the inside of the mold I then put a big coat of Wax on and began laying up 1808 matt side down for the first layer then the other way around for the rest of the way. I dont know I guess I put 3 layers of 1808 down then stopped. Oh almost forgot to say that I used epoxy. Popped it out of the mold and removed the clay and began fairing with system 3 quick fair. After I got it straight and smooth I painted it with Awlgrip. It has some cool handles on the side and storage on the inside. I also modified the hatch just forward of the seat so I can open it without having to open the CC door. I did this by cutting the hatch and putting a piano hinge in place. I'll get a seat cushion made and a back rest as well. Heres some pics.

Strick, Long time, no type. As usual - great work. I am still blown away by the way you make molds! Do you have any pix of the inside of the mold for this project ? I cannot seem to grasp how you make the perfect radius' on the edges ?! And, a picture is worth a 1000 words... Thx, Alan |

Re: Making a Seat.
Another great job Strick. You got me inspired to try something new. Some fiberglass boxes for mounting vertical rod holders on the port and starboard side of the CC I will let you know how it comes out after I put it together.

What kind of clasps did you use on the console door ?? I've got the original door with the seat built into ...but that thing is a monster !!! |
