Too Much?

Re: Too Much?
I've seen 225's on 18 SeaCrafts. Even though you have 225hp you don't always need to use ALL ofit. I imagine you will be able to swing a big prop and barely stress the motor. As long as the transom can take it, go for it!

Re: Too Much?
You could paint over the 225 and make it a say 175. Would that WORK???

Re: Too Much?
Abe, Make sure your transom is in excellant shape and have hydraulic steering. Other than that "hang on"!! The motor will fill in the back of the boat..

Re: Too Much?
I have also seen 200 hp on 18's so 225 on a 20 seems ok to me. I would do it! If you have a single cable steering, go to dual or hydraulic like Bobber advised. Sure can't beat the price. Butch

Re: Too Much?
I knew a girl in Palm Beach who had a 225 Merc on a 20 SF. She was a bit of a speed freak, though. With nose cone, OTH chopper, low water pickup, and jack plate, she could run low 60's. And usually did. As I recall, she blew three powerheads in 2 years. (She like running WOT in 1-3 seas.) When the warranty was out, she bought a new engine.
Don't do that. |
Re: Too Much?
AR I HAVE HAD THAT SET UP FOR QUITE SOME TIME NOW (225 JOHNSON LWP ON A 20'CC. I WOULD'NT CHANGE IT FOR ANYTHING.I DO BELIEVE YOU MUST POSSES SEVERAL THINGS THOUGH TWO OF THEM BEING,
1) A SOLID TRANSOM 2) BE LEVEL HEADED (THAT MUCH POWER ON THAT SIZE OF A BOAT CAN GET YOU IN TROUBLE REALLY QUICK IF YOU AREN'T CAREFUL) WHEN I BRING DOWN THE HAMMER SHE HARDLY TOUCHES THE WATER, BUT THE EXTRA POWER IS HARDLY USED. I LIKE TO HAVE IT SO THAT WHEN I AM CHASING DOLPHIN IN THE SUMMER AND THE STORMS START SHOWING UP I CAN OUTRUN THEM EITHER WAY GOOD LUCK ON WHATEVER YOU DECIDE. Re: Too Much?
Noah, I couldn't agree with you more. Just the sound of the motor and boat at 50 and above is a Reel Rush.

Re: Too Much?
Way too much especially for a center console; now maybe if that 225 was on some deserving members Seafari!
