Possible purchase advice
I have been looking for a boat in this (23') size range for a while now and had settled on the idea of a mako or other type hull, but have really been impressed with the rave reviews of older seacrafts. This boat popped up in my area a few days ago and seems to be a solid boat. what is your opinion on the price if all things check out and the hull is solid. It has had some transom work done and an older motor with low hours, the guy said it was only used to go to his duck camp. Any info would be great.

Re: Possible purchase advice
I doubt that boat will be around long for that price.
Fantastic motor, no bottom paint, and the transom has been re-done. I would not be surprised if it is already sold. |
Re: Possible purchase advice
The price seems real good to me if the transom was done right. But, you'll also want to check for soft decks and the condition of the fuel tank.

Re: Possible purchase advice
ballpark, what would I bee looking at to enclose the transom and add a bracket?

Re: Possible purchase advice
I just tried to put a deposit on a credit card for the boat over the phone and the seller said the price was higher then 10k, but he didn't know how much higher. AWESOME SALES TECHNIQUE....good luck

Re: Possible purchase advice
It is extremly hard to evaluate the transom by a picture. This one scares me. That transom repair appears to only be a patch / quick fix. That starboard type materal has no strength http://floridasportsman.com/art/scold.gif
Approx Costs:As far as redoing the transom also depends if you do the work or have a Professional do it($5K-$7K), buying a bracket ($2-$3K) de-rig and re-rig the motor, adding steering and cables {as longer ones needed}($1K-$1.5K) Oh don't forget the Beer Factor $500 |
Re: Possible purchase advice
I have a friend on the way to look at it now. He is 20 miles away

Re: Possible purchase advice
I just got a call back from the owner, the price is now $12,500....

Re: Possible purchase advice
Yep capt_chuck pretty much told you what I did on THT, except that the boat doesn't look like it has hyd steering. That you will need too. Figure a round figure of another $1K for that.

Re: Possible purchase advice
Calling that a "composite" transom is a stretch. It must be a patch job since the Starboard is not flush with the transom.
This guy is probably not a joy to deal with if he lists it for $10K and then says over the phone that it's $12.5K. |
