Tubes on side of console

Dumb question (another one).

What are the tubes supposed to be used for on the side of my console (see below picture)? Am i supposed to try to pry off the tops and use them to house charts? Please advise. I expect some interesting responses.

Thanks http://www.myfishpix.com/gallery/dat...acraftubes.jpg[/image]

I THINK THEM’S ARE ROCKET LAUNCHES OR TO HOLD YOUR GOLF CLUBS, OR MAYBE A QUIVER FOR HARPOONS. AIN’T SEEN THEM BEFORE.

Perhaps the boat was parked nose downhill on a steep incline when those rod holders were installed using a level?
