Scuppers
 

My '78 23 Sc has these small 3/4" tubes for scuppers...they don't drain very well. Has anyone come up with a way to improve them? Or is this just something you have to live with....This is the only "flaw" in an otherwise awesome hull...

I'm amused by the beer thing...and it's a great idea that I'm sure works well. Fortunately, I don't have much problem with water coming in, it's just slow going out. I was trying to find someone who might have put larger scuppers in. I have a 21 Trophy (for sale) and it has four scuppers with the little rubber flap deal on the transom. A lot of Trophy owners pitched them in favor of the Rabud ball type. I heard someone say one time "you can judge a good offshore cockpit by the scuppers", for whatever thats worth. I think I am going to re-do the deck this winter (there are some cracks to fix) and put in larger scuppers. Maybe your Vortex in a larger diameter will be the answer....thanks for the idea...

I installed some ball scuppers I found from West Marine and that completely solved the problem of water coming in. This of course doesn't help the flow of water coming out.

Go with the 2" Gemlux with the changeable flapper.They work fine on my 1978 23' [img]/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]

The ones in the above picture are very similar to the original ones installed on my 89 SeaCraft 23WA and they work great as long as you don't wash a big chunck of herring or other bait down them and it gets stuck. Easily cleaned out w/a hose though.
The Seasports are mfg's here in town and they have used the ping pong balls style for years and the seems to work well also. I would be tempted to install the 3/4 inch ones in my engine well to keep water from coming in the drain holes. The deck plate in the engine well is cracked and leakes like a sieve letting water get inside the hull sometimes. Not a real big problem, just a nuisance.
