BlueFin Tuna Fishing on a 23 SeaCraft
Had a great time fishing yesterday 8-24-2005 with my good friends, Ross, John ( owner of the 1981 Seacraft in pictures), his two boys and Ben.
The plan was to hit a well known offshore spot and troll squid bars for a chance at a giant. The odds were slim but it was something all of us wanted to do for some time so we gave it our all. We met at my home early in the AM rigged the boat up with everything from a block and tackle system to band aids. We towed the 23 2 hours by road to the ramp then ran for another 2 hours to the fish, the boat ran great we had all sorts of conditions slop, swell, calm, etc. and the 23 handled it all with ease even with a full load of gear, fuel, and 5 people on board. We made it to our spot and trolled for hours, the company was great, the weather was perfect, there was tons of life, mola mola's, birds, whales, etc. but no fish. We gave it a go but decided to go for plan "B". Off we went in search of some Schoolie BlueFin Tuna, after running for 45 mins we were in the action. after 3 hours we had boated 5 Tuna to 75lbs. 3 @ 30lbs, 1 @ 60lbs, and the one in pics below that Ross faught on 30lb tackle for 45 minutes weighed in at 75lbs. A great time was had by all on one hell of a capable boat. some pics.: http://www.classicseacraft.com/hardysc.jpg http://www.classicseacraft.com/hardysc2.jpg http://www.classicseacraft.com/bftrun.jpg http://www.classicseacraft.com/bftrun2.jpg http://www.classicseacraft.com/benbft.jpg http://www.classicseacraft.com/benbft2.jpg http://www.classicseacraft.com/rossbluefin.jpg http://www.classicseacraft.com/rossbluefin2.jpg http://www.classicseacraft.com/rossbluefin3.jpg http://www.classicseacraft.com/rossbluefin4.jpg http://www.classicseacraft.com/rossbluefin5.jpg http://www.classicseacraft.com/rossbluefin6.jpg |

Fantastic photos of a great day. Photos like these are a real morale booster. Thanks.
Incidentally, with the load on board and all the running you did, how much fuel did you go through? But why the two hour tow? Just dump it in around Newport and head for the South side of Block! |

TX guys-
yes it is the boat that was on EBAY last December it was the deal of the year, the only thing that was done to it was a major engine tuneup. Joey- TX they are a blast on Spinning gear BI Guy- no way would you have the opportunity at multiple 60+ lb fish south of Block right now, we have been fishing your area all year and were tired of the same 35-35lb fish. Sure there are a few off Block and in the Mud Hole but the majority are 25-35lbs. |
