Yamaha 115 mid section

I recently traded my ’72-20 for a ’85-23 Seacraft with twin ’86 Yamaha 115’s. One of the steering brackets is badly rusted, and I have been told the easiest repair is to swap the mid-section out.

What year mid sections will work? I have a line on a 1995, I know that the motor cover and bucket are different, but is the mid-section and hydraulic the same?

Anyone have any experience with this?

Egreen - Check out the the online parts catalogs for both yamaha motors. Replacing the mid section is going to be a tough job, especially after 20 years of saltwater corrosion. Make sure you have a mapp gas torch handy.

Is it rusted so much that you are concerned with its integrity, or is it just a rusty mess?
I ask because my 87 Evinrude has a tilt motor that would rust up no matter what I did. This year I painted some POR-15 right over the rust and it hasn't started to rust yet.
I'm really impressed with the stuff - we're restoring an old El Camino and the stuff is great on rust.
Just a thought.

POR-15 is great!!!!!!!!!!!
I am currently restoring a 65 Impala convertible and when we get through the frame will be covered in the stuff. I have also used it on trim motors, the stuff actually does what is is advertised to. DON"T GET IT ON YOUR SKIN, it stains for quite a while.

Wow Bryan - we got a lot in common.
I had a 65 Impala when I was a kid - hope your girlfriend doesn't kick a hole in the roof like mine did
Por-15 is great. We'll be doing the frame on ours too - what a project. If you think Paul and Jr argue a lot on American Choppers, you should see my son and I - It's hilarious.
