Bird Poo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now that I keep my boat on a lift I have a major problem. Birds seem to have "flocked" to my boat. When I checked it last night there were hundreds of brid doo's all over everything. It's really disgusting. I am going to add nails to the wood pilings and pvc caps but how do I keep them off my gunnel? Although a 12 guage pump with #6 shot seems like the best solution I'd hate to "ruffle any feathers" in my neighborhood. Does a plastic owl work?
Any suggestions would be helpful.

Brian, that's simple enough. Just find out where they live and do the same.

Some people put owl statues out. I'm not convinced that's very effective.

If you have 4 piling posts you could try stringing thick (100 lb test) colored monofilament line crisscrossing above and over the top of your boat. That will keeps seagulls from flying down and landing on the boat. I am not sure this will work with other types of birds but it usually will work with seagulls. The mono spooks them and they will fly away and land on your neighbors boat instead.

I had aproblem with birds in my apple trees and on my boat. A paint ball gun worked great. I just shot over thier heads a couple of times and they did not come back. Don't shoot the boat because it stains. I actualy hit a couple because they flew up and in to the balls. I don't know if that killed them or stuned them because the dogs caugt them on the ground.

I have a Plastic owl in my marina that is worthless,I think that they get use to it very quick.I have done the mono thing and it works great!I know for a fact that the paintballs don't kill gulls.I use alot of live ballyhoo here sailfishing and when anchored up on a patch and chumming the hoo's,it seems that just when they are getting thick behind the boat and you are ready to throw the net, here come the sky rats! And there goes the hoos. So,now we stand by with a really cool semi automatic paintball gun and hope the little @%&#$@^ show up.It takes a little practice as they are not real easy to hit,but once your zoned in you can catch all the ballyhoo you want! Really though,it hardly phases the gulls, they turn green or blue or whatever color paintballs you are using, but after hit ,they go sit on the water for a minute or two ,then fly right back in to your slick.Sky Rats, not the most intelligent creatures on earth!

Briguy, I use an owl on my hard top and it seems to work. They crap on my gunnels now instead. Scotty.

My brother-in-law had a problem with Canada geese until he bought a Bird Chaser from a farm chain store called Agway. It's an electronic Hawk sounder that goes off every half hour or so. It works great. Try www.birdchaser.com.

Had this problem with an airplane that was constantly bombarded with poop. Owl works for a while then they figure it out. Best thing is a rubber snake. Most effective if you change positions a lot after using the boat. That solved the problem for me.

Rig a bare wire with no conduit on it above your boats top, and plug into in to your 110 receptacle. That will teach them a lesson.
