New to site/ 23 CC Potter repower / trailer
 

Hello all. First have to say what a wonderful site this is. I am looking into purchasing a used potter 23 CC I currently have a brand new 225 suzi four stroke to put on the 23. My questions are can the 23 handle the weight of the 225 without doing the full transom / bracket option and will it still self bail with the 225. Also anyone use a suzi 225 four stroke on their 23 and what kind of performance can I expect. Lastly no trailer is in the deal how much do the old 23 weigh and what kind of trailerweight rating would be sufficient.

welcome to the site. to briefly answer your question: yes the boat will be able to handle the weight of that motor.

The 23 can handle it with No problem. ?? Transom ?? What Year & has it been re-done? Thats the $64,000. ? Your not going to beat that 23. Any / Most / All ~ of Your ?'s can / will be answered Here !!!!!!!!
Having the motor is a Darn good reason to by a SeaCraft !

I was concerned as are most about buying an older boat from times when outboard weights were a bit different. Does anyone have any performance numbers with a 225 on a 23 also i am looking into a 5600 lb roller trailer I am out on Cape cod and the tides are an issue.

That trailer might be bare minimum depending on how big the fuel tank is how much the full cooler weighs [img]/images/graemlins/tongue.gif[/img]

Assume the boat is close to 3,000. I have twin 150's = 850 lbs, plus t top and other misc at 200 lbs, plus full 150 gallon tank = 925 or so lbs. This puts me a little over 5,000 lbs. My 1,200 pound trailer can take 6,400 pounds (including the trailer) so i am right at the min weight.

It adds up quickly

I'd be looking for a 7000GVW trailer. My trailer weigh's 1030lb's, so at max load it can handle a boat that weighed 5870lbs.

Congrats on the Seacraft purchace.
I have a Mercury Verado 250 4 stroke on my 23 and am just a hair past 40 knots WOT but be careful the fuel burn at high rpms is overwhelming these motors will save you fuel at cruse but not at the top. My transom is still the old style cutout and I beleve I could back right down to davy jones locker if I am not careful.

I just went down to look at the boat a little closer it is actually an 82 not 75 as owner thought (verified by HIN) the transom has some movement in it etc etc. The trailer is better suited for recycling than a boat trailer and the 1988 vintage electronics apparently still have a $3000 value according to the owner. Needless to say the $6k asking price is not worth it in my book as the boat needs to be gutted and then a $3K trailer under it. I am going to keep looking but seems as though good hulls and a trailer are hard to find. So far all the 23's I have looked at need major refits or the owners think 15 yr old outboards and electronics are still worth what they paid 15 yrs ago...... the search and saga continues.....
