I lost a ton of respect for "Dunk" after rading that thread. He sure knows his OMC motors but wood stringer(s) in a seacraft?


As for more glass in a Tracker hull WTF?, I know for a fact this is false and even have sources who can confirm this.

Not saying Tracker hulls are bad but the consisitancy in quality in Potter hulls far surpases that of the Tracker built hulls.

Yeah, I'm surprised at Dunk too.We go back pretty far on the WMI board days and he's been quite a help to me over the years.
He always told me Seacrafts were great boats.

After looking at that production # thread, I think I'll hold on to mine. I got 1 in 95 built over 30 years ago and it still turns heads and runs like a champ. How could ya not like em ?

Just another internet "expert." I no longer bother discussing the ride and quality to anyone unless they've actually run one in snotty conditions. Otherwise it's like discussing sex with a virgin.

Boy,

I am glad you guys replied on this.

I was getting ready to sell my boat before my bow snapped off. With the cuddy weight and poor stringers, the bow could easily snap off ... i am doomed. [img]/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img]

I think he might be talking about the glass over wood piece (2"x 4") that was in the early SeaCrafts, eventualy it gave way to the 1/2-4" glassed over PVC pipe. I don't know what year this changed but my '78 has the glassed over PVC. I talked to Mr P awhile back about this piece. The way I understood it, this piece ran fore /aft down the keel to beef it up because most fishermen/guides in south Fl (where most sales were going at that time) were using rollers down the center on the their trailers. The "Float-On" type trailers were not on the market yet.

This wood by no means served as a stringer. I think Dunk is mis-informed [img]/images/graemlins/mad.gif[/img]

He states plywood stringers with an "s". I take that as all the stringers.

As you know and state there is only was only one 2x4 wood stringer that went down the centerline and this was only on a handful of 20's.....

I agree Dunk is either confusing boats or ????

No, my 72 23 has that wooden keel stringer. The 78 is PVC.

I have yet to see a 23 with bad stringers....
