New Trim motor works!! SOME OF THE TIME

I just replaced my trim motor. The other day the engine switch and the throttle switch did not make a noise. I then tapped on the new trim motor and it started to work. Has anyone ever experienced this? I was told if the brushes on the motor were corroded this might happen, but its a new motor. Any advice?

Sounds like a connection issue, have you checked the solenoid or relay? what model and year engine?

ZT HAVE YOU BYPASSED YOUR RELAYS AND GONE STRAIGHT TO THE BATTERY YET? I AM GOING THROUGH THE SAME PROBLEM THAT YOU ARE, MY TRIM MOTOR WOULD ALSO WORK ONLY AFTER I TAPPED THE HOUSING, IT FINALLY GOT TO THE POINT THAT NOT EVEN THE TAPPING WAS WORKING. FINALLY I REMOVED THE MOTOR FROM THE UNIT AND NOTICED THAT ONE OF THE WIRES HAD BEEN PINCHED, WHEN I OPENED UP THE UNIT I NOTICED THAT THE BRUSHES AND SPRINGS WERE CORRODED, I HAVE A JOHNSON AND I HAVE NOT FOUND ANY JOHNSON DEALER THAT WOULD SELL ME THE BRUSHES, I WAS TOLD THAT THE BRUSHES FOR THE YAMAHA WOULD WORK BUT THEY COST $120.00, AND AN AFER MARKET MOTOR RUNS FOR ABOUT $160.00. I WENT WITH THE AFTER MARKET MOTOR.

I have a 1996 175hp v6 evinrude ocean-pro. I was also thinking about the relay or solenoid. I doubt its the brushes because I just replaced the motor.

I SUGGEST YOU BYPASS YOUR RELAYS AND GO STRAIGHT TO THE BATTERY AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS.
