Seacraft Industries HP ratings
 

I've tried searching the archives, but I can't come up with anything.

I recently bought an '83 20' SF made by Seacraft Industries. It doesn't have the Coast guard plate that gives max HP and loading. I know the Potter 20' CCs are rated for 175 HP. Can anyone tell me what the 20' SIC hulls were rated for? It's 20'-4" long and has a 25" transom, so I'm hoping it's rated for at least a 200, cause that's what's hanging on mine.

I think 175 hp is the correct hp but I think it can handle a 200hp engine, just slightly over powered. The weight will be the same. [img]/images/graemlins/cool.gif[/img]

I learned two important things. First, 33CFR183.53, which establishes requirements for horsepower ratings and rating plates for outboard boats, does not apply to monohulls over 20' in length, like my Seacraft Industries 20. If it *did* apply, the formula in the regulation would allow a maximum data plate horsepower of 185 for this hull. Since 33CFR183.53 does not apply to my hull, I guess I can now tell my insurance agent that the engine on my boat doesn't exceed the max horsepower rating. Ill post if it doesn't fly...
