There is a lot of info about scuppers throughout the site… but in a nut shell

A couple guys in the corner of the boat will cause water to come up onto the deck. That’s why the rubber plugs go in, just don’t forget to take them out when you leave the boat for the night, the deck is self-bailing.

If those tubes are corroded, as many are, they can allow water into the bilge !!!! They are mounted in wooden blocks and water can seep into the bilge since its underwater at rest.

Fellowship even came up with an insert for the scupper ….” The Vortex” lets the water out but not in ... almost works like a duckbill.

At the very least make sure the brass tubes are sound and are sealed to the hull ( most important from the outside) This goes without saying for ALL the thru hulls at or under the water line !!!

If You've ever heard the name "SinkCrafts" You now know why ! Some of these looked like they were just Puddied in at the bottom(Kinda like a Crawfish mound) :),When they gave way / broke or ?.Well She went down. :eek:

What's the problem with the through floor scuppers? I haven't seen anything specific but from reading posts here, I get the impression that people prefer to switch these to go through the transom. I was just wondering why. I hadn't known about these before buying my Tsunami in November but when I looked at the boat and saw them I though they were pretty cool. Do they not drain well or does water come up through them while underway? I never looked back to check then while doing the sea trial. Now I'm nervous.

Crap, that's not good news. Sinkcraft is a new one for me, don't remember seeing that in the ad. Anyway, I don't think they seemed bad when I checked them out in November but I guess we'll see once I get the tarp off in the spring now that I have a better idea what I'm looking for.

What are these vortex contraptions that Fellowship invented. Are they bought or built? I'm picturing kind of a flat pastic hose that opens when water is poured in the open end from the deck but, I can't picture anyway to do something like that with available materials.

Thanks Scott. I probably should have just tried searching under vortex. Anyway, after reading that it all seemed really simple until I saw the pictures. Basically you're just sticking a homemade flapper valve on the bottom of a piece of PVC pipe but to be noest I got a little confused about the need for two pieces of PVC and the o-rings. I'll have to take a better look at it after work.
