I had mentioned in an earlier post about a little 20 cc at a marina near me. The boat is sitting low in the water half sunk from rainwater up to the underside of the floor. The transom is rotton. It will need a total gutting and then restoration. The fiberglass is in fair shape. The owner does not know much about the boat. It looks to have the same liner and hull style as the 70's era seacrafts I see on this board. It has a metal SeaCraft emblem on both sides which makes me think it is very old. There is no hull Vin # engraved anywere in the fiberglass that i can find however in the splash well is a black and siver metal sticker like the one that was on my 23. It is illegable for the most part due to wear and tear but I can make out the serial # to be 1124. My questions are:

1)what year could this be?
2)did the 20sf hull design change at all from Mosely to Potter?

The owner says he has the pinkl slip but he did not remember the year. I'll have to see. Thanks

I'm pretty sure that all "20's" were Potter built. Mosley built a "19" (19'6") and then Potter changed the rake of the bow and called it a 20. My 67 19' has less rake to the bow then the 20's. Maybe you can eye ball the rake of the bow. My 19 has metal Sea Craft emblems on the sides too. And Mosley never built a CC, just Bow riders and the Seafari's. Potter took over in 69 right.. so... maybe 1969 to 72..or it could be a Bow rider converted to a CC. Maybe this info will help narrow it down a bit.

The only boat that I have seen that had a "a metal SeaCraft emblem" was a Moesly boat. It was on Otto's 19 that he just sold. Anyone else seen a metal Emblem?

Pipe - It's definitely all original and it's a shame the way these guys literally use the boat as a trash can. If I remember correctly the tank is under the console (not in floor) and the original Gelcoat is gray. The metal seacraft logo looks just like this one from the 1969 article.

Did Moesly build Seafaris? I thought it was just Bowriders before Potter. If there were Seafaris in the Moesly era, are they different from the later ones?

Read the last few paragraphs of this page. Looks the "Offshore Center Console" went into production in late 1963. Safari's were around in 67 in 20/25ft flavors.

The CC and Safari were built out of the same hull, designed & built during the Moesly era.

In the article you pictured (Nov 69) it states:
" ... Carl Moesly...raceboat driver, designer, builder....A few years ago, he pattened his varying deadrise hull, raced it successfully and put it into production....We knew his 20' hull as an open fisherman...And when he introduced the 20' Safari, a cruising boat on the same hull....."

The original SeaCraft design & boat built was the 21'. Then the 15' I/O, the 19' Bowrider, 20'open fisherman/Safari, 27' Seamaster (cabin cruiser)

Moesly sold majority of SeaCrat in 68, but remained part owner & continued design & production until 1970. Then he went cruising around the world for many years.

Any boat should be cared for...

I wonder what years they used grey gelcoat for the hull.

I'm new to this board and think it is great. Just sold my boat and went to visit a boatbuilder/friend to talk about building me a boat. He suggested and might want to find an vintage SeaCraft and re do her. The more I look here the more I like the idea! I found an ad for a 20 ft (73 model) but something looks odd. the transom has aluminumum reinforcement and there is a vent aft just in front of the transom. Is she likely an inboard that was converted? She has outboard power now. I'll try to figure out how to post a picture. Thanks for any help!
