Ablative Paint Removal
 

Anyone had any success with removing ablative paint? I've tried stripper and it's a mess with the chalky nature of ablative paint. Sanding is a mess too, when the dust settles on you, your dog, and your trailer and becomes somewhat permanent. I was thinking of renting a 3500-PSI pressure washer and trying to blast it off???

My plans are to remove the bottom paint down to the gel coat, sand, and reapply a new layer of gel coat. Any advice is always appreciated, thanks.

I pressure wash mine every year to clean it, not remove it and it seems like plenty comes off. I also wet sand the waterline area to remove the stuff that doesn't sit in the water but discolors. That removes alot also and the best thing----- no dust. I use Shark White Micron Extra as the paint. I would try pressure washing.

I plan on having mine soda blasted. sounds like the best solution I have been able to find. Curious if anyone else has done it and how they found the results.

I think I'll rent the pressure washer for $50, give it a whirl, and clean my roof while I'm at it. If that doesn't work, I'll look into the Soda Washing. I'll post my results after this weekend. Thanks for the help!

I assume you have composite shingles? [fiberglass shingles]

Be VERY carefull doing that. You can cause a lot of extra wear and tear on the roof.

A better methiod that I have used is to buy swimming pool Clorine [sp?]

Put it in a pump up sprayer and coat one half of your roof. Then just hose it off with the garden hose. Then do the other half the same way.

No scrubbing needed or wanted. No high preasure to screw thing up.
