Insurance

As I sit here in my new Classic SeaCraft T shirt that just came in - very nice, a thought now that I have this unreplaceable classic craft, who and how do you get insurance on these things. What type of policy and how do you arrive at some price.

Re: Insurance

AAA homeowners insurance. Or whom ever you have your home insured with. Just tell them how much it's worth and you pay the premium every year. You also get coverage for when you are out on the water if there's an accident. Thats what I did.

I have Progressive. I think most companies call it a "stated value" policy. If you insure it for $20,000 and there is a total loss, the actual value does not matter, you will receive $20,000.

I found it somewhat difficult to get insurance with many companies on a boat as old as mine (1971 20' hull). Even with current survey in hand, most companies I approached didn't want to insure boats older than 10 years.

I ended up sticking with Allstate as they were the company that I had it insured with prior to the redo. With current survey assessing value at $38K, my annual full replacement coverage runs right around $900.

I also had a hard time finding someone who would insure an older boat. I went with BOATUS insurance. Have had them for 5 years- I also did not need a survey

I also have Progressive, they didn't require a survey either and was the most economical.

I added mine to my homeowner's policy w/ State Farm, 3 boats: 1 1971 20' Seacraft, 1 1974 23' Seacraft, and 1 1994 17' Carolina Skiff = $804 per year.

I used Hagerty Classic Boat Policy, after facing similar problems. You get a yard survey and have an agreed upon value, easy as that. A $20K policy on my 1972 20SF is about $470/year.
