Another engine ????

Ok I have decided to stay with the I/O as I like the lines of the boat with an I/O, now I was all set to go with the 4cyl package just like it came with and someone threw a curveball and asked why I don't drop the V-6 in it :D The difference in weight is 200lbs will the 20cc handle this and benefit from it?? Anyone done this? Mods engine box?? Help me out

A 4 cylinder motor is light and easy on fuel . . . 25/27 mph cruise. Burn is similar to todays four strokes ouboards. If you go diesel then it'll be even better.

What outdrive do you have?

depends how fast you want to go. If it were me I would stay with what is the most economical that will still get the job done.

I agree with Strick, I'm now saving up for a new 3.0 L Mercruiser with Alpha One or the equivalent Volvo setup. A drawback of the 20 is its high susceptibility to rear weight. There's a very nice Seafari for sale in this forum that has the 6 cyl Mercruiser in it and you can see how much lower she rides at the transom with the extra weight. And that's with all the extra cabin weight up front which compensates a bit, a CC's transom would probably be even lower in the water.

I would love the diesel but it's too much for my pocket right now. I just want to get it done ASAP so I can get her back in the water!

I think with the 6 cylinder merc you wouldn't be able to ever have open scuppers. 200 additional pounds at the stern of a 20' SC just doesn't work very well.

Want2fish-

Northeast Marine in Hyannis or Doug Russel Marine in Worcester, normally run some pretty good specials on the 4cylinder engine packages. I am pretty sure you get a new 3.0L carbed engine with a new outdrive for about $5900. You may want to wait a couple of more months to see if they have specials on leftovers.

Awesome just what I was looking for, 4cyl by a large margin. I will wait until the dealers are looking for business when it gets cold outside ;)
