Ebay Scam

Scam

To good to be true, but I figured I'd check it out before FBT did!

Correspondence:

Hello,

I’m interested in your Seacraft on Ebay. What’s the Buy it now price?

Hello there!

Buy It Now for $4000!
I will pay for shipping!
I am located in London,U.K.!
The boat is stored at eBay warehouse in Kansas City, MO , the boat will be
shipped from there on my expence .
Terms & Conditions Shipping and handling:
The shipping address must be provided before sending the payment. The
boat will be shipped trough DAS Shipping Company . The boat will only
be sent after receiving the payment. I agreed with eBay to send my boat
to its warehouse since I am not in US .This way, both sides (seller and buyer)
are insured by eBay.
If the boat is different than the way i've described it, 100% refund - transfer
fees and the boat will be shipped back to eBay's warehouse on my expence.
Anyway, I don't think it will be necesary, you'll love this boat from very
first moment you'll see it.

Buy with confidence!

Brian

Is the boat title free and clear? How did you come to have this boat? Who do I contact at Ebay to determine if this is a scam?

Hello again,

The title is clear.
If you are ready to purchase this boat I can contact eBay and they will send you an invoice for your purchase.

Thanks,

Brian

How do you want payment? Thru Paypal?

At this time the payment method that I prefer is via westernunion.

Thanks for understanding,

Brian

Good luck selling it, I found one for even cheaper on Ebay, and the guy will take cash. I'm sending him cash in the mail tomorrow. Plus he’s going to ship it on an 18 wheeler right to my front door.

God, you got to love Ebay…

Re: Ebay Scam

Funny - There was a similar ad on the SFbay Craigslist for a hewes flats boat 2K. I ask for specific details HIN, Trailer, etc. and the response I got was almost exactly the same.

Re: Ebay Scam

I had a guy contact me with a very credible SECOND CHANCE OFFER from eBay when I dropped out of a bidding recently. When I responded that I was interested I got an email from some guy in Singapore with terrible English, that's why I got suspicious and checked out his email address in eBay. Turns out he had just joined and was not the seller's email or name. BE CAREFUL!

My next question was: I am in St Louis, MO can I pick up the boat and is the title clear.

His response:
Hello again,

I have a clear title to the boat and the "pick up" is not available since I am not in the country.
Mail me back if you are interested to buy it.

Regards,

Brian

I emailed ebay about the listing, asking about the ebay warehouse in Kansas. This is the second time I have seen this on ebay. I think it just hit today and was only going to on ebay for 24 hours.

Re: Ebay Scam

I came across a similar scam when I saw a 2005 Imprezza STI for $10,000 on cars.com. I emailed the person seeing this car should be atleast $25k. They came back saying they moved to the UK and the car was in storage at Ebay. They said they would accept western union. By then I knew it was obviously a fraud, so I asked if we could use an escrow system. They said that they would use some type of system but after looking it they only garrantted purchases up to $500. I then proceed to get the guy full hot saying how I wanted to use escrow.com. I then reported him to cars.com and ebay, neither of which emailed me back. I noticed that the adds were removed, so I emailed cars and ebay back asking why they removed them, they wouldn't answer me. I said that this was on there sites and I was going to complete the transaction (thinking they might tell me if they knew I was getting scammed) they said they weren't responsible for any transactions outside of their sites.... Be careful.

Re: Ebay Scam

This boat has been listed at least a half dozen times in the past 4 to 6 weeks or more. I've been watching and wondering what the deal is. Didn't persue because it's not what I'm after. I wouldn't contact these suspects via any communication. What surprises me is that they are able to relist and Ebay lets it happen. They better get the Bobbies and the Yard to work and sting them quick. B-E-W-A-R-E
