Two pix-Two reasons
I ran out to the boat the other day in the fog and couldn't help but get my camera out-even in the fog-those seacraft lines say let's go catchem.
The other pic is one I just stumbled on from launch day (back in may)-everyone's favorite day of the year up here in the NE http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n...tanddog014.jpg http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n...tanddog002.jpg |
Re: Two pix-Two reasons
This might be a stupid question, but how do you guys get out to your moorings? We perfer the wooden things with cleats...

Hmmmmm Montauk... Some day when I grow up, I want to fish Montauk
So I have to ask - how well does a Tacoma tow a 23 SC ?? |
Re: Two pix-Two reasons
Well enough to get to the ramp a mile from my house! The truck actaully pulls better than you'd think-I have the five speed with the towing package. Never an issue at the ramp. Obviously, braking suddenly at high speeds with this combo, even with the trailer brakes, would probably be a little harrowing.
Going anywhere far, I'd much prefer my buddy's Diesel F250-it's like the boat's not even there. I bet this chilly rain has the bass licking their lips for the fall run around the point out at MTK. They come in very thick if you hit it right-it's almost like you could walk across their backs. Makes me think of what this fishery was probably like all over a few centuries ago. My favorite fishing out there is from the rocks in my waders-the small boats chasing fish in the fall have gotten pretty wild. Lots of light tackle guys from all over in the fall. I actually saw from the beach a small parker get tossed to its demise a few years ago when he chased a school a little too close to the rocks. It's definitely a place to respect in a boat. |

Oldfielder- I get out there every fall now, this year looks like the last of oct into nov for the full moon. Waders, wetsuit, it's the place to be! Here's my best from Montauk, under the light, october 1988. http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...3striper12.jpg
Let me know when you're going! rockdoc |
Re: Two pix-Two reasons
That looks like a career fish right there. I got a nice one right around Plum Island this summer.
i know for sure I'll be out there Oct 22-24. But I can be coaxed just about any time I don't have a cross-country meet or practice in the fall. I will probably have the state permit for my truck so you should drop me a line when you head out. The best stop you can make is at Freddie's in town-stop in, buy a plug and fish for info-he has put me on the fish the last three years-the other shop in town treats you like a criminal if you start asking questions. Funny side note-I drove that exact same ford-color and everything-an 86-that's in your picture. Finally got rid of her when she stranded me on the ramp. |
Re: Two pix-Two reasons
Yes, I can tell you some stories about the lovely proprieters at Johnny's. Vin at Freddies, on the other hand, is a great guy. I'm sure you also know Stan at Rocky Point Tackle, another good guy in my book.

Hey rockdoc-
You better get out to mtk-it's busted wide open right now. just got back from two days of outrageous fishing in the surf. thick blitzes everywhere. my arms and back are killing me-that's the montauk workout. funny thing, too, the best fishing of the two days for me was on the town beaches. the point was great but the open beaches were better-don't overlook them. nice bass were scavenging around the fringes of the constant bluefish blitzes racing by. sharpen up your white bucks and let me know when you're hitting the suds. I've got the fever now that I just can't seem to shake  Nothing better than Montauk in October. I love my old boat, but give me a big striper in the surf anyday. |
