Waterpump issue?

Has anyone seen a 225 looper johnson, with an alluminum waterpump housing? Everyone I have done is plastic with the ss liner. Now I have a 225 looper, 87 year, I pull the lower unit to replace the waterpump due to the not too impressive stream of water out the pee tube, and I come across a metal wp housing. with no liner inside of it. The teardrop slit in the front of it is going the opposite direction of all others. I replaced the entire assembly with a plastic housing, ss liner, pump, and now have no water pumping at all. Any ideas??? Do I have a unusual lower unit? It is a Counter rotater but that should not make any difference

Ryan,
I have an '89 225 looper that has an unimpressive stream too and is also a lefthand engine. Can't tell you what my water pump looks like, but I remember my mechanic saying that it's typical of the big loopers to have tell tales that trickle out the pee hole.

ScottM Does your flywheel spin clockwise or counter clockwise when running? Mine turns counter clockwise , which is unusual, I have always thought all loopers and 60 degree motors ran clockwise and the lower unit was geared reveres for the CR motors. Mine seems to run backwards :D

I haven't run mine in a while, but if I recall correctly, it spins clockwise. It's technically a righthand motor that has a lefthand lower unit. The previous owner came across the CR lower unit for the right price and put it on. I have found no issues with it so far.
