Help with \"smooothy brand\" drag washers ?????????

Has anyone used smoothies drag washers in penn internationals ? I found their web site through baker custom reels and cannont find any reviews on the product. They are supposed to cure the sticky drag that the penns were given some much crap for. They are claimed to be better than the new shimano and penn v series reels drags. Any help would be appreciated. It's time to pull them down and clean inside and out and the reel seats rod seats and good geasin. Also any info on ceramic bearings.
Thanks

Try a search in the tackle section of the message boards at www.allcoast.com and you'll get as much info as you could possibly want. Type "smoothies" into the search box in the advanced search function. I tried it and came up with 60 posts on the topic.

Rusty, I used them in my Penn/Accurate conversion. They seem to work OK.

Had a friend who bought these for his International 30's- Caught 2 150+ lb sharks- One on the Penn, the other on a Shimano TLD 30- the Penn was still not half as smooth as the Shimano. Just my 2cents. Hope this helps

just got off allcoast almost more confused now ? im gonna check with penn on new duradrag ? i guess its not as big a problem as im making it but when i build things i like them to work to the best of their ability and there seems to be a significant diferance in the drag washers....but how much is opinion and how much is fact ?

Stick with the new Penn Dura drag washers. The older HT100's were also good but if your drags got wet, when they dried the salt would build up between the backing plate and the back side of the drag washer. That would cause high spots and an erratic drag. I believe it was an issue with the bonding agent. If the reel is an older model you'll want to replace the drag plate as the newer ones are machined to much closer tolerances. Rub Penn blue grease into the drag washer surface and then wipe the excess off and you're good to go. IMHO a lot of the bad raps about Penn Intl. reels are because there a pile of old ones out there with old wornout parts in them. Tight Lines.

Thanks for the opinion. Im calling penn, smoothies and cals 2 speed mon. Cals says they will talk to you on their web page so im gonna try em out. Im curious about their 2 speed conversions as well. I should realy stop fishing on my days off and work on my boat. I talk to my wife on my way home and by the time i drive the 5.5 hrs home i have atleast 2 or 3 people wanting to go fishin on my days off.... Its had to say no to a fishin addiction...
