Spray Rails for 18'

Has anybody installed spray rails on their 18' SC? This boat is very wet, water comes right up and over the sides. What type did you use and how effective were they? I have seen the glue on type,(smart rail) and the one from taco. How would I fasten the screw on type since I can't get to the inside? Where do these get mounted (how far back). Any experience would be appreciated. Thanks.

rayhawk. I have a 78 18 footer and have not had that problem except when I put her in weather that would wet most boats. I also would really not like to screw anything to my hull in that area.

My reference is a 19' dolphin (much less freeboard)that I have been on a number of times, and the SC is noticeably wetter. It seems that it is not every wave that gets you wet, but it comes right over the sides over the rubrail when it does, and it is more than just a splash. It has even worked the rubrail loose over time. I am not talking about heavy seas here, just chop in the bay.

sounds like you may need a bigger boat. You should have no problem selling your 18. Good luck Keith

I review a site for spray rails and I thought it was a while back.
The company name is "THE SMART BOAT ACCESSARY" @ htp://www.thesmartboatrail.com.
