Winterizing FICHT?
Quick question. My cousin asked me to help him winterized his FICT 150. I have winterized many a carbed engine but never anything with direct injection. From what I have found out it is basically the same procedure, fuel stabilizer, fogging oil down the intake then load up the cylinders throught the spark plugs.
Anyone have any input on Ficht engines and winterizing? And I don't want any comments from you souther boys about winterizing, especially you Warthog. :D :D Thanks in advance guys. |
Re: Winterizing FICHT?
I help my dad winterize his fichts every year and here are some more things....
There is a certain fuel mixture(don't know it off the top of my head) that has to be run through the engine. My dad bought a small gas container were he mixes the fuel and whatever else in in there, then he just hooks it up to the outboard and runs it with the small tank for a little while. We also ussually change the oil in the lower unit this time of year so its one less thing we have to do in the spring. Like u said, fog the engine. If I can think of anything else, i'll let you know. The best thing he should do is to buy the manual. It has everything in it, including how to do all the maintainance. We just replaced the water pumps this year, and it was pretty easy. The instructions that they gave were great along with all the pictures to help you out. -andrew |

Re: Winterizing FICHT?
Bryan, I have a Ficht 175 and was told by a mechanic all to do was mix a concotion of a few different things into a gallon of gas and let the engine run for about fifteen minutes to get everything throughout the engine. I fogot what the mix was but I will try and find out tommorrow if the store is open because I also need to winterize mine.

Re: Winterizing FICHT?
Bryan, I winterized my motor yesterday. The head mechanic said to mix 1 pint fogging oil, 2-3 oz. Ficht oil and some stabilizer. Mix all this into 1 gal. of gas, spin off the fuel filter on the motor fill it with the new mix, reinstall, start and run the motor for about fifteen minutes, then shut it off. The fogging oil is a liquid not the spray stuff. I had to purchase it from them(about 6 bucks) This is a sad time of the year :(
