Propping a 23 Savage

Finaly after 4 months of glass work, gallons of blood beer, tequila,Rum ,and sweat, my 23 savage is almost ready for the water I have not purchased a prop for the motor and am curious what others here have experienced, The motor is a 99 225 yamaha efi ox66. The set back is about 30" She does have trim tabs. I am most interested in good mid range and more torque. What prop would be best? I have no prop on the boat so I do not even have a starting point. I was thinking either a 19 or 17 pitch but what diameter?

23' CC w/bracket here with 250 Yam., 17 Yam. 3 blade SS prop...low-mid 40's at 5500 rpm. Does pretty good holeshot. I had a 22' Whaler with Yam. 225, transom mount, and the best prop was a Solas 18 4 blade SS, It would hold a much better low speed plane and did much better in rough water without sacrificing top end or holeshot. I would like to try the same prop on this SeaCraft.

Great site, it told me a 14 3/4" with either a 21 or 19 pitch. Thanks for the help!!!

Trust me on this - go with the 19p. Unless you're racing, the reduction in strain on your engine as well as the increase in applicable torque is well worth it.

Might want to try Propgods.com . . . if you do end up using them or another Merc prop dealer . . . try the Mirage Plus or Rev 4 - 17 or 19 pitch.

The 23 with the 250 is only swinging a 17 at 5500,the 19 and 21 are going to be too big, those sites always seem to come out heavy on pitch. I would start with a 17 personally but somebody else with a 23 with 225 will pop in I'm sure. I'm pulling a 19 on a 20 MA w/200 no way a 225 will pull a 19 on a 23.

I found a deal I couldnt turn down at the west marine discount store, they are having a 30% off sale on the already marked down stuff, I bought a stainless high performance 4 blade 14.5 by 18 pitch for $109. new!
Hope it works but if not Im sure I can off load it for what I paid.

I agree with Egg. 17 Mirage Plus is your prop.

Re: Propping a 23 Savage

That 4 blade may work very good on a 23, lets just hope it swings it, be sure to get the engine high enough. Cavitation plate should be at least 1" above the hull boattom and with the 4 blade maybe a tad higher, that will also help with RPM.
