Question about fiberglass repair

Hi, What is the minimum tempeture that fiberglass will set up in? I am eager to get started on my new console but the outside temp reads 11 right now.any input would be appreciated

Re: Question about fiberglass repair

sounds like you need one of those propane heaters like Strick is using (aiming right at your work)

Re: Question about fiberglass repair

The epoxy I'm using says ideal temps is in the mid 70's. There is a special hardner one can buy for working in 50 degree temps. I would think that 11 deg is just too cold.

Re: Question about fiberglass repair

I think you will need to provide some heat at that low a temp. Those heaters are really good. Mine is acting up so I'll be getting a diesel one next.

Last year I held off until March then bedded some stringers outside on another boat. :o Fast cure epoxy cures slow in March! I am waiting for some nice weather to do a Transom on the 20SF.

If you make a tent like hermit . . . it'll dry, but you'll have "resin-head" for a week. Make sure you open up the tee-pee when you're laying up the glass.
