Bow Rail: Yes or No?
 

Boat is 23' Sceptre. I am doing some paintwork to freshen up the deck and hull-sides. Am debating whether to keep the bow rail or remove it and fair the holes.

I like the look of the center console without the rail but am still up-in-the-air on the Sceptre. Any opinions on this? Opinions on the aesthetics?

If you have small kids keep it, if not get rid of it. I took mine off my 25 Whitewater which is similiar and I think it looks better. You can see easier too. But now I don't let my girls up there.

I you ever have to go up there it would be nice to have, like anchoring.

I agree with that logic. On CC's I prefer a low profile rail, but on a Septre it can get pretty dicey up on the bow messing with the tackle in rough conditions.

If you use an anchorball, most of the time you don't have to go up there. I have one, works great.

I agree with the others, if you have small fry or anchor often keep the rail, it's not worth the danger just for looks. But if you don't have small ones or rarely anchor then you could get rid of it.

I was up in the air when my father first took his rail off last season, but now I like the looks of it. He got the flyfishing bug bad, so he's trying to make it as "fly-friendly" as possible - no railing, bimini top, etc.

Mine had none when I bought it but a member here sold me the one he took of his CC. I was against putting it on but my Dad insisted. We do a lot of anchoring and have kids on the boat all teh time. Once it was on, I decided I really liked it better.

I have the before and after photos on my desk top right now and will email them if you'd like. i jsut don't have time to mess with figuring out how to post pics again right now.
