Re: First Tarpon of 2007 on Fly!
I had 2 monster tarpon in the 150 lb+ range roll by my skiff last week right at the entrance to the barge canal at the Crystal River powerplant. They hung out within 30 yards for 5-10 minutes. I threw everything in the tackle box near them and they wouldn't do more than swim over and look at my flys. As a new fly-fisherman, when I saw them I was so excited I could hardly stand it. Then I was so dissapointed I could hardly stand it. Talk about an emotional swing!

Re: First Tarpon of 2007 on Fly!
My brother just sent me a clip from www.laregatapr.com which reports that a 78" long, 48" girth, 200+ lbs Tarpon was recently caught and released in Puerto Rico on fly. The fisherman used a Temple Fork rod, TFO large arbor 425 reel and 30 lb line. There's no mention of the fly or tippet used. Although it was a definite world record catch the fishermen decided to release it rather than kill it due to the long ride back to the dock. Now that's fishing!
