repost...Awlgrip/Gelcoat

One more post before I sleep...
How hard is it to Awlgrip above the waterline and topsides? How is it applied...rolled brushed sprayed?
Is gelcoat easier?
Any info/pros/cons welcomed.
Thanks guys...(now that i can't sleep thinking about it...hehe)

lots of sanding, when you think you're thru, you're only about 1/4 of the way there. AwlGrip primer is ike sanding concrete. Pick up the application guide and read thru it. Most importantly, make sure you have a proper place and time to do it, the last spray job I did, I didn't get it on the boat in time, the paint didn't cure completely before the dew settled on it and flattened the slickest coat of paint I've ever sprayed.

so it should be sprayed...i will probably rent a garage to do it
what about the top (bow, gunales) could they be done with a brush and roller?

I've seen some real nice jobs done with rollers and brushes, I've never been able to brush or roll anything worth a crap, I like spraying. In fact, the guys around here like to roll the first couple of coats of primer, it fills in the pin holes better than spraying. Any where you're doing nonskid, its easy to roll. But if you want that mirror finish, its hard to beat spraying. On the boat I had the problem with the dew, I finished spraying just before 3 in the afternoon(should have known better, but I was determined to get it done), the sun went down around 5:30, it was allmost enough time, half the bottom was slick, next time I'll plan to do it earlier, timing is criticle if your painting outside, you don't want to do it too early, you need the surface to warmup, too late and it wont set off right

Its not that bad rolling and tipping alwgrip for a great finish if you don't have the optimum place to spray a boat. Spraying is always the top choice.
