18' Seacraft.
 

I've purchased a completely worn out 18' center console, but the hull is still in good shape. She presently has a 200hp Evinrude hanging on the transom, which is supposed to run good but the lower end is not functional. I want to replace the Evinrude and I need some guidance on horse power that will make the little girl get up and move but not destroy my nest egg. Please forward specs of the prefered engine you have mounted and the performance data. My sincerest thanks for your time and effors. Bodine

Bodine-I am in the middle of a repower with my dad's 18SF. He had the same things to deal with(weight, adequate power, good price). Seeing that you have a 200 currently, you may want a motor over 115 hp(excellent weight though)I have a 130 Yamaha on my 18SF and it is more than enough power at 358 Lbs. If you want new, the best motor is a 140 Suzuki for the 3 factors above. My dad is getting a 6 yr warranty and a new 2006 140 for $6995. If you want used, look for a Yamaha 130. Strick got one for $2500 and Ikan also had a 130 Yamaha on an 18 and has the same comments as me on the perfect fit for weight and power, and now has a 140 on his 20 .

just to reiterate what has already been said, if you can find a used Yamaha 130, that is perfect for the 18' (and I don't think finding one would be all that hard, I see a lot of them around).

Your biggest concern if you aren't going to raise the floor should be weight rather than horsepower. That's a tail-heavy boat and putting a heavy outboard back there won't help at all.

I saw an 18' just yesterday down at Birdsall - I still sort of wish I'd kept my 18' :(

An 18 SeaCraft is a lot more boat, its actually 18'10" mine had a 115 and it was fine but 130 would be better.
