1973 Tsunami fuel tank problems any suggestions?

Just repowered a 73 Tsunami i purchased and thought i would have it on the water this week. I put some gas in it and when i got it home there was a bout 2 gallons in the bilge. I am replacing my feed hose but i also found a hole on top of the gas tank right above the weld of the main feed. Don't know if i should get out my wallet to have a custom one made or try to patch this one. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Mike 1973 Tsunami 350 MPI, Bravo 1

Re: 1973 Tsunami fuel tank problems any suggestions?

I just glassed my tank against popular advice. The only reason I did it, was because it wasn't leaking. I was told that I would have to totally incase the tank for it to work. I took a dremel and ground out all corrosion spots. there were very many. I felt like a dentist. I used epoxy resin and 1.5 oz mat. Wet the tank with epoxy and brushed through the wet with a stainless brush to aide adhesion. I had it half done and read an article about ethanol gas eating through polyester resin. fiberglassman said to make sure I used vinylester resin. I thought I'd go further and use epoxy resin. Epoxy is not chemically resistant to alcohol either. Vinylester is resistant. I kept on glassing. I hope that because the tank does not leak, ethanol will not come in contact with the epoxy that I used.
Anyway, If you have holes in the top, you certainly have holes to be in the bottom. After all I did on my tank,(that did not leak) I can tell you that it is a hell of alot work and if I were you, I'd have one made. Expect to pay min. $9/gal for a tank. good luck1
