Need some gelcoat repair help .. asap .. please !!
 

Guys & Gals,

My friend is in the process of replacing his trim tabs to larger ones.

In the process of removing the trim tab plates on the transom, he got excited and pried them off. :eek:

Well they came off, but with the gelcoat/glass fibers!!
Must have been 5200??

Anyhow, damage has been done :( and he realized it the hard way.

What would be the recommended fix? and recommended sealant? :D Lucky for him the damaged area will be covered by the new larger trim tab plates.

You could make a putty out of polyester resin or epoxy
mixed with cabosil/ground fibers....or use a fairing compound. And even paint it with Gelcoat....

If he ripped some glass out of there as well he is probably going to want to do a heavy sanding and ad a little matt then fair over with a epoxy type fairing compound sand and paint. There are other ways to skin this cat and I'm sure he will hear about them.

clean up the wound with some sandpaper and acetone like chuck was saying . . . then fill the void with a gelcoat and cabosil mix. I don't have an exact match for the white hull yet, but when I mixed 50% pure white with 50% halyard white gelcoat . . . it was pretty close to the deck cap of the seafari. use the cabosil/gelcoat mix just like you would any bondo type fairing compound.
