Rod Holder Configuration
I'm replacing my rod holders in the stern on the Savage with some Stainless ones. Does anyone know what the standard configuration is for them. There are two on each side, one facing directly aft and the other angled out a bit. The rod holders come in 0 deg, 15 deg, and 30 deg of tilt. I was thinking the one facing directly aft would be 15 deg, and the other one 30 deg but wasn't sure. Is there a normal practice for this?
Thanks http://www.dolnik.com/images/blog/cesmith.jpg |
Re: Rod Holder Configuration
I believe all (4)of mine are 30* but the forward 2 are angled outward more.

Re: Rod Holder Configuration
i think its just a matter of personal preference for both the angle and orientation- I use the 15° and all are facing aft in the same angle. I had the fwd ones facing slightly outboard on my old boat and IMO this is done for outrigger usage to give a better angle in relation to the short riggers. I do have 0° holders amidships where the old gunnel mount riggers went and I like them a lot for getting rods out of the way when working in the "pit". just the way I do it- whatever you feel comfy with and works the best for you-

Re: Rod Holder Configuration
The new ones I just put on are 30 on the transom so they lay down a little. On the gunnels they are 15 so they stand up a little and while trolling 4 rods of the same length the gunnel lines go way back and will clear the transom rods.

Re: Rod Holder Configuration
Thanks everyone, I ordered the C.E. Smith ones, 2 30 deg and 2 15 deg. They are not an exact fit so I'll have to epoxy the old screw holes and drill new ones.
