Trailer Bunks
 

Purchased a nice aluminum trailer for my 23 seacraft and just had it on the trailer. It came with two 10" x 3" rear bunks. It is an overkill if i add another 2 bunks closer to ward the inner chine for more support?

not overkill, but most in that size range have the extra bunks forward. They carry some weight and are also for centering the boat. that is where i would add the extra support

NO, Careful because if improper pressure or alignment is applied with these brackets you could cause structual damage :(

YES, weight should be on the rear bunks.Once you have the boat centered, the forward bunks are placed up against the hull for a guide :)

BTW: Ask Forum member "Sanzo" about improper forward buck placement on his 23'. Mike @ Wildfire Marine had to perform major repairs to his hull :eek:

Thanks for the feedback. Right now a lot of weight is on the 2 front bunks. i would add another 2 bunks to the rear/mid section.

If your bunks are covered in carpet, give some serious thought to how much you like blisters on the bottom of your boat.

Another member here had a problem and mentioned it to me. Upon looking at the bottom of my boat, I had them as well. After talking to others in town, it's a problem suffered by many.

If you put "bunk slicks" on top of the bunks you should be able to prevent this problem. I've now installed them on the bunks on my lift as well as on the trailer bunks. Hull blisters = no good!

Ikan, what are "bunk slicks" and where do I purchase these bad boys? Do the bunk slicks cause extra motion when you are running down the highway with a wet hull on the trailer? I have thought about spraying a mild coat of silicone on my carpeted bunks but have been very reluctant to do so as I dont want to invite any extra hull motion when on the highway. thanx in advance...

If your hull is securely fastened down both fore and aft you shouldn't get any hull movement on the trailer. Transom straps and a bow strap (in addition to the winch cable) are a VERY good idea for trailering. I consider all three straps to be an absolute must.
