`96 ocean pro rough off idle - 1800rpm

Howdy,
I bought an `89 20 sf with a `96 ocean pro 150. Compression is 90 across the board. Not 89, not 91. It sat for a while. The owner thought it was over propped as it wouldn`t turn more than 4500wot. I thought it was a carb/ fuel issue. I had the motor baselined by George at G&S locally. Carb job, switch out oil pump for premix, new water pump, and seals.
He said that motor was a perfect match for the hull and should turn 5600 wot easy. I ran fuel conditioner and then ring free/ techron at shock level of 1 oz for 2 gals for 40 gals fresh fuel. I have put 80 hrs on it and now turn 51-5200 wot w 50 gals fuel , 3 average guys and a bimini. The hull and deck are solid w/ no intrusion anywhere. Boat does not ride low. Motor sings after hitting 1800.

Thx,
Sandman

Have you changed the plugs? If not that's the first thing I would do. Those have the OSI ignition which is tricky. If you ever get random stalling issue . . . then replace the powerpacks :) Also check ebay for 17P Viper . . . that should get your RPM up.

Hi BigShrinpin,

New plugs and tune up , I`m turning a Michigan 14 1/2 x 17 stainless prop in excellent condition. I`m gonna go alone bimini down and trim up to see what I hit. I dont have tabs yet and will need some. Hint Hint to all.

Art at bombardier tech support said it could be overpropped as he`s seen that. Does a Viper have less cup? She sings after 1800.

Thx,
Sandman
Those who say the best day of their miserable life was when they sold their boat never owned a Seacraft.

If you have the michigan rapture stainless prop . . . DUMP IT.

It's the WORST prop for a 20 seacraft. Do a search on the site and see some of my old post about my brand new 17p Michigan Rapture prop.

Check out Propgods.com . . .

My favorite two seacraft props are the Mirage "Plus" and the Highfive. There's an hub kit (from Merc) that will allow your motor to run the MERC props.
