Re: motor

Sorry to hear of your blown motor. Was looking forward to seeing you in Tampa. Might be worth doing an autopsy/careful teardown to learn cause of failure. Sounds like maybe a rod bearing? Corrosion of bearing journals can become a problem on 2-strokes if motor sits a long time w/o being fogged.

Merc's fit - probably more of them on SeaCrafts than anything else! Don't know if mounting hole pattern is same as yours. Contact Fr. Frank - he's a Merc guru and I believe close to you. A rebuilt powerhead is also another, and possibly cheaper, option if lower unit is in good shape.

Re: motor

If your transom is unmodified, the '97 20" 135 Merc will be a good choice. I run a '92 20" 150 Merc, reman'd in '02, that actually produces close to 200 hp. I used to run a 120hp Chrysler (yes, a Chrysler), and it was adequate.

I moved up to the 150 because I bartered for it. I was actually looking for a mid-80's 115 or 140 Mercury inline 6 when I found the 150.

Re: motor

Tear down the motor . . . and see what happened. If you need any 2.0L parts just holler. I'm parting out a mid 90's 2.0L right now. The crank is on ebay. I have nice set of heads and some pistons . . . + the 150 carbs. Also have a long 175 XRi Tuner and a short 200 bell tuner.

I'm pretty sure that the 135 and 150 are ported the same. Don't throw that old motor away . . . It's a great motor for sparparts or rebuild.
