Shamrock Ride?

Has anyone around here logged enough hours on one of the bigger Shamrocks(26 feet) to offer some ride characterisics. I am sure the smaller cc's are a lot difft. than the bigger boats, so I'm particularly interested in the larger hulls. The layup seems impressive. One thing I've found interesting in looking at them is that the beam seems a little narrow for their length-it may just be me, though, I don't know. I've got my eye on one-really starting to look for an eclosed cabin for the chilly months of blackfishing and staying over in Montauk. The Grundens, pushups, jumpingjacks and and handwarmers just aint cutting it anymore. :(

I ran this one in the late 80's for about a year it had a 6 cylinder Perkins 240hp. It held 100 gallons of fuel and cruised 28knots burning 3 gallons per hour. Because the wheel house was so far forward you would feel every wave in a short chop. I finally put some rubber flooring in the cabin and a good seat that would absorb the pounding. It had good working room on deck and with the keel I could ease it up on bar without worrying about the prop.

How did the keel affect the drift characteristics; As in drift fishing? Ya probably didn't have much time for that though :)

I used to fish on a friends 20 Shammy 10 yrs ago. Because of the full keel she would drift beam to and with little roll.
It had no freeboard to speak of. It also pounded like a Russian politician at the U.N. Hence the nickname "Slamrock". With the 302 we could fish all day for 30 bucks.

They are a heavy layup and the beam is a little narrow for an inboard. The Gold-Line 26 is 10` vs 8`6`` for the 26 Shammy.
The Conch 27 is another fine inboard. Shammies hold their value well but most people don`t appreciate / want inboards, so the resale market is limited. No boat is perfect. Go to fishtheclassic.com for more info. Shammy site.

If you fished an area with lots of shoals, the keel would be a plus I would think. If she drifted beam to, in a heavy beam sea, did you ever have a wave grab the keel and drag you sideways or did it track well? I know a lot of large boats are designed with a slight tunnel and no keel.
