Hull ID Number?

Just purchased a SeaCraft and title states it is a 1977, but hull id number ends with 76. Does that make it a 76 or 77?

Just like a vehicle manufactured. IE: 10/76 titled as 77
The last for digits will tell you the month and year

Hope this helps, Ken

76/77 seems to be a pretty common year for this phenomenon. My "76" SeaCraft 18' had a "77" title. From what I can gather, boats made late in '76 already had the HIN stamped but weren't registered until '77. Call it whatever you want but the title is what the state thinks it is.

Anything manufactured after August would be titled for the following year.

So should I order my "Potter Built" sticker with the year 1976? How do I order that sticker anyway?

Get with Capt Chuck for your sticker.
What ever you feel like going with as far as a sticker.
Manufacture date or state date... It is up to you..
Personally I would go with the title date.

See ya, Ken

This is not always true at all. And that '76/'77 hull # versus title year thing, was a huge blunder. Boats can & do get confiscated because of something like this. What would I do? I would have a new hull # stamped into aluminum, or a phenolic plastic hull # plate made at a trophy or plastics shop, that has the correlating correct hull number on it. Just my .02

I can only tell you what Potter told me.
For instance my '72 23 had no HIN there for it was manufactured in '71 being they didn't implement the HIN until '72.

Not only Seacraft. My last boat was a Luhrs Alura. It was hull id of 86 and titled as a 87 and documented as a 87.

My current Seacraft is a 1970 title, but was built in1964.
