Opinions on a '77 Sceptre
 

I'm pretty new here (just been lurking :o) and I've found a '77 Sceptre that had a pretty professional looking refit from I/O to outboard....it's got a '97 Yamaha 225 (new powerhead in 2004, low hours) along with an '89 aluminum trailer under it. The hull is in what appears to be good shape, needs some paint and there was a small soft spot in the deck about 18 X 12 inches. It also has a fiberglass hardtop along with Furuno GPS and Furuno fish/depthfinder. Any ideas......do the masses think that she would be worth the $5000.00 price?? I know that it's very hard to say what anything is worth without seeing it, etc....I'm just looking for any/all opinions!

I have a '78 Sceptre, I/O with a glass hardtop (pictures in gallery section here) and would be embarassed if anyone found out how much time and money I have into mine. I may not be completely in touch with today's market, but I would have to say that sounds like a hell of a deal. Good luck with the decision and post pictures if possible. Also, find a very good surveyor if you have not done so already.

Thanks Chris! That is a beautiful boat that you have, maybe if I get this one I can get her looking that good (kinda doubt it!).

I had a Sceptre great boat, sounds like a hell of a deal to me if the motor runs at all and trailer will roll down the road 3 miles without a major castastrophy

a bit more power and you would like it more but plenty to roll with :cool:

for what it's worth, I paid double that for my 73 Tsunami about 2 years ago. It was similarly outfitted, including the conversion to a bracketed o/b and the Al trailer but with out the hardtop.

I nearly pulled the trigger on an '80 or '84 with a 250 hp volvo penta (2001 re-power)that the dude was selling for 12K. Granted it looked sweet and was very current electonically, but because its virtually unknown in California he wasn't getting the action he'd hoped for. He sent an e-mail quoting me 10K but I didn't think I could pull around hilly so. cal and baja with my Toyota T100 so I passed :(. Hell of a boat though. I think @ 5K for a 23 sceptre in better than decent cond. is fantastic. Good Luck! Remember one of the happiest days of owning a boat is the day you buy it! For me that was exponential joy when I found my Seafari cause it was still a Seacraft and I didn't have to buy another truck :D

Forgot to ask -- was the O/B refit a bracket? If so I'm sure you've seen the additional cost and effort that goes in to that...

No Sir, they didn't add a bracket, they notched the transom :(, I wish that it had been bracketed!

Can someone tell me the difference between a Sceptre and a Tsunami? As you can tell, I'm new to SeaCraft's!

Some pictures, if you can get them would be nice. If it is in the shape that you stated,and only needs a few repairs to the deck or other stuff,it sounds like a heck of a deal.Hell if you decide not to buy it,i will,as i'm sure lots of others would.

I have a 74 Tsunami I/O that i got for $1,000.00 on a nice galv tandem trailer,and i felt that i stole it.I guess i did,but i had to replace lots and lots of everything,transom deck etc.,and it sure aint cheap,so if it's truly in decent condition i would snatch it up.

The Tsunami and Scepter are the same boat,from what i learned from the knowledgable guys on this site.Seacraft had to change the name for legal issues,because there was already another Tsunami boat company.
