recreational lobstering - cape cod
 

I purchased a couple of traps and want to try for some lobster this year. I have never fished for them before. Other than acquiring the MA recreational permit, what other advice can anyone give me? What are the rules of the road? What is the proper way to mark my buoys? Do I need to mark the traps the same way? I have searched the internet for information, but really haven't found anything online. Any advice would be appreciated.

You should paint up your buoys (color of choice) and then melt in your #s. It should be N#### on each one. If you got your traps used just check the vent sizes to make sure you’re within specs. There are different size requirements depending on where you fish. If you need gear Cape Fisherman’s Supply has everything you need including gauge, warp, buoys, bands, and bags. I have been at it for some years now and it is a lot of fun. Sometimes you work your but off for next to nothing but it’s a great excuse to get on the water and bring your dog or some kids. Oh and it gets messy…..but that’s half the fun. I think rec permits are now capped at 10 bugs a day (new 2 years ago?) but if you come home with 10 your doing good. FISH BLUEFISH if you can….it will last and tends to out fish the hide (depending on were you are). I am going to try a couple of pucks this year. Well see how that goes. Depending on where you are moored…..it wont be too hard to find the spots….youll see all the gear. Give folks as wide a berth as you would like them to give you. Nothing like hauling back and getting tangled in the next guys gear. People will haul your gear, gear will be lost I don’t think you can do much about that. HAVE FUN and well see you out there.

I'm not sure about the Lobsta' you guys have up there,
but when we have our Lobster season, they cost us about
$40 a pound. :D It is almost cheaper to go to the fish market and buy them... :D.

It is the thrill of the hunt that keeps us doing it
year after year. You cannot beat the fun you have
catching the little boogers.
We dive for the spiny Lobster.
This ole 74' Ford truck hood had 68 legal bugs in it. :eek:

Oh yea and it takes at least 4 beers to haul 10 pots. :D

you'll aquire a nice collection of jigs and lures, be carefull hauling them up!

WRONG!!!! It was a molted tail :) The head is
in front off to the left. :rolleyes:

Six beers and not one trap set,great time and no crabs,no supper but I had a great time. :D
