Comparison of Core Materials

I found this article by West System very interesting,
comparing core materials of XL plywood, Okoume Marine plywood, balsa, and core cell foam ... weights, cost.

I've heard of XL plywood before, how it is kiln-dried & very rot resistant. Has anyone used/worked with XL plywood?

Giving consideration to which type of materials to use for bulkheads, cockpit sole, decking, etc.

No one's heard of XL-10 plywood/panel?

That is an interesting article. I may also be replacing the bulkhead on my Seafari and I had only considered marine ply -- just hadn't yet decided to go teak, fir or a mahogany variant. I think the XL panel is made by Greenwood Lumber or similar. Not familiar with XL-10 but I think the Greenwood stuff was doug fir plys treated with copper chromate (same stuff they use for treated lumber) and exterior grade glue/epoxy? I think for the bulkhead or floors (if wrapped in resin) it would be fine. Price is certainly favorable.

Re: Comparison of Core Materials

XL is treated w copper, chromium and arsenic. Think P.T lumber. Some use oil based glue which is not compatible w poly. Don`t know about epoxy.
Are you using poly or epoxy?
