Absence of strakes on 20 footers

I was staring at my Seafari in the rain today (looks kinda like a sexy gecko from the front, eh?) and it struck me that the hull lacks a lifting strake on the bow near the keel. The 18's have it and so do the 23s. Why not the 20s? Did I get duped or are the 20s so right that they didn't need it? Is this why I need a stern-lifting prop? Speaking of which - Is the Solas Titan series a known quantity? Any ideas why the strake variance, does that mean I don't have a CSC :o

Come up and visit before I head to the east coast and I'll show you exactly why you'll want a sternlifting prop :) The strakes are a potter deal . . . I don't think they make much difference, but what do I know ;) BTW - I got your message about the MA . . . just haven't responded yet!!

I think I've seen them on some 20's and could they possibly make for a drier ride? Some people say these boats are wet but if I keep those above the surface its a dry ride ;)

Tim's right - none of the Moesly designs (the 21, 19 bowrider, the 27, the 20 cc and Seafari, and 25 Seafari) have strakes. Potter added them when he created the 23 and 18. Some folks think the strakes hurt the ride - they definitely will add some dynamic lift, and that's one thing Carl told me he wanted to avoid when he designed the 21. The 21 is a wet riding boat however, and I believe the strakes were intended to knock down some of the spray in moderate seas. If seas are big enough to bury most of the forward V however, I wouldn't think the strakes would do much good!
