Rubrail replacement on 20 Center Console

I want to replace the rubrail on my SeaCraft 20CC. The one it's got on now is aluminum and some of the screws have worked loose. Looking behind the aluminum, I can tell that there are more "molley" type fasteners than those which hold the rubrail on. What I think I should do is pull off the aluminum rail, pull off all the fasteners and fill the holes in with what? Bondo? Also, what size of rubber rail should I go with. Ebay has some stuff at about half price but it's 1 1/8th inch. Is this wide enough? Anyone help here with what else I should do? The aluminum looks bad and I think rubber is the way to go.

Hank.

Two good choices, go to Taco.com or Rubrails.com. I purchased a hard rubber with an SS insert from Rubrails.com and actually got what i would have from taco. Taco is wholesale. Go to Rubrails.com and get the phone number and call the guy. He is very helpful and has many suggestions. Great person to deal with.

Hank,

I had the alum rub rail on my 1970. I pulled it all off. Cleaned off the resin soak tape that was factory orig. Also cleaned out between the cap and liner with a small wire wheel. After all that I calked that joint with 3M5200 and screwed tight (through existing holes). Once it was all set up I removed the screws, filled the holes with thickened epoxy and sanded. It seemed nice and tight and was ready for my new taco rail :D Some guys have put epoxy in the hull cap joint but my rivets were still good and the new rail is screwed off well. Make sure you seal your new screws going back in too.

don't fill the holes with bondo, use either expoxy with cabosil or milled fiber. Bondo has no structural to it. get a couple of plastic syringes fill with epoxy or polyester cabosil mix and squirt in the holes so you get a filled hole and not just a surface fill.
