Epifanes two part urethane
gofastsandman,
You mentioned something about Epifanes in another thread.I was wondering if you were talking about the two part urethane that they make. I was planning on using it on my Tsunami restoration, and would like to know if you or anyone else has any experience with it. I used it on my outdrive, and it seems like a very good and durable finish, but I'd like to make sure that it would be as nice on the hull. I've used SUNFIRE two part urethane,(Sherwin Williams automotive)with great results on another boat, and it is a superior finish and pretty much bullet proof, but much more expensive. I called Epifanes, and they said their product is more closely related to Imron, and differs from Awlgrip.I thought most two part urethanes were similar, yes,no? If anyone has any info on the Epifanes two part urethane i'd like to hear about it. Thanks for any info. |
Re: Epifanes two part urethane
Talk to Tom at Signature Finish, do not know cost comparision but he is very knowledgeble about paint, he should since he is going to try to sell you some but he has alot of info. I am using his product and find it easy to use.

Re: Epifanes two part urethane
I think Sandy was talking about their varnish, a 1 part finish. I've used Signature Finish also for a bootstrip and am very pleased with it. Check out their web site - it has a lot of info for the do-it-yourselfer. Capt. Chuck did his whole boat with it and also likes it. It's repairable if you ding it, unlike Awlgrip. I believe Imron is also repairable. All of these urethane paints are only good above the waterline however; they'll bubble if they stay wet for long. Below the waterline it's either gel coat or bottom paint!

Re: Epifanes two part urethane
I'll only be spraying the hull above the waterline with the urethane. The rest is bottm painted.
I've sprayed urethanes before and had good luck with the finish. I have a buddy who sells the Epifanes line of stuff,so it's easily availiable to me,and i can save a few bucks.I sprayed the outdrive with it,and even though i wasn't fussy it looks very good, and seems extremely durable. Thanks for tips guys,i'll give signature a call, and pick his brain. I would like to know just for my own interest, what the difference between them are. Some are described as linear urethanes, and others as saturated aliphatic catalyzed urethanes.***HUH? |
