weight in transom
 

Hi, I tried to post this question earlier but must not have gone through. I know some seacrafts that have extra weight for ballance, where is it placed?
I know several cabin models have it, but don't know if my walk arround does.
It would make sense because they are front heavy.

They are rectangular pigiron soaked in fiberglass, about 7"x16"x5", and look like a shoebox laminated (very poorly) to the stringer and floor. I had 2 on either side, located flush against the inside of the stringers, almost against the transom. They were an afterthought, and they glassed them to the painted floor without doing much prep, and they have a habit of coming loose.

I had one shake lose and almost knock the neck of my seacock, which would probably sunk the boat 30 miles out. It did destroy my washdown pump.

It is one of the really dumb things seacraft did. If you boat is older, you probably have 100 pounds of water in the transom anyways, so I would take them out. Also, most people are putting a lot bigger engines/weight than what they came from the factory with, so you probably don't need them anyways. If you do need the weight, put in a 3rd battery :D.
