New transom cracking in splash well

I just had my transom replaced on my 79 Sceptre. The transom is cut out for twins, and i have a single 225 ETEC on it. What is happening is when i took the boat in rough seas the motor tugs on the transom and starts cracking the gelcoat on top , in the splash well. The transoms designed for single outboards don't have this problem. Any suggestions on how i can reinforce the transom so i do not get any of this flexing.

Re: New transom cracking in splash well

I had a guy in tiverton RI do the transom. He specializes in all types of fiberglass repairs including many types of transoms. The cut out for twin outboards on my boat i think was the prob. It is designed to have two motors on each side and not one in the middle, especially one that weighs 520lbs. This is why i think the hulls that came through with single outboards have a different cut out on the transom. This is just my theory i'm not sure. :(

How many craks did you end up with and long were they?

Any idea on how he will fix it?

I would hope a new ransom would be stiff enough whether there was a single or twins on it. Any idea what the layup schedule and materials were??

He has to put a new piece of 3/4 going from side to side in side the splash well where the top bolts of the motor are. Also he is also going to put 2 braces going from front to back inside the splash well. Sounds kind of strange but he says it is the right thing to do. The cracks went from where the factory aluminum transom trim molding where placed side to side. I will post pics when i get it back.

The cracks were about a foot long, it seemed like the cracks got really bad when i had the trim tabs at full trim to get the bow down in the 4 ft seas i was in, putting alot of stress on the transom.
