Transducer placement location 20cc?
 

Where does everyone mount their transducers? I have tried a few places on the transom making sure it was properly inline with the bottom of the boat to reduce bubbles. When I get above about 1200 rpm I start getting bubbles causing the fish finder to go crazy.

I am thinking of mounting it as an in the hull config. Being a 20cc access to the inside of the hull is quite limited.

Where have people had success mounting transducers so that there is no bubble interference when running at mid to high speeds?

Center of middle panal starboard side. I wish I had a better pic, but you can see the transducer inboard of the trim tab. Mine works great at all speeds.

The height and the angle the transducer is mounted has a huge affect.

I spent the day remounting it, tried to mount in the aft bilge under the false transom but it is so difficult to work in with only the small round screw plate in the stern/engine well.

So, I cut a hole in the bottom of the rear bait well and mounted a 6" screew plate cover there. I then mounted the transducer to the bottom. Its probably about 2 1/2 feet in from the transom and centered. I used a small plastic peanut butter jar, cut down to be about 3" high and sealed it to the hull with lifecaulk. I just fill the plastice peanut butter jar section with water and drop the transducer in , screw the cover back on and it works great. This also leaves the transom clean.

I had originally tried it just about where yours is mounted, but it just kept getting too much disturbance from bubbles at anything above about 4 knots. I see you have a tail, I don't so maybe that makes a difference..

That's interesting, KBay. Very creative solution to a pretty common problem. Way to go. Can you post some pics?

These pictures are not the greatest, I had to take them at night with the flash so it was hard to get a good shot. I might be able to take some before work tomorrow.

Underneath I lifecaulked the peanut butter jar to the hull of the boat...

Then fill with water and drop in the transducer... The jar is just big enough or my transducer so it won't move around. If the jar were bigger I would have used plumbers putty on the sides hold in in place

And then put the top on the jar.. I cut a slot in the top but be carefull the plastic cracks very easily as mine did.

Then screw the port back in tightly and you have your transducer installed and the bait well still works.

I had mine in the bilge and it worked great. I wasn't about to have holes drilled in a brand new transom and don't particularly find external transducers attractive. Other than losing water temp readings, I can't see any downside to putting them in the bilge.

Ikan has a point. Drilling the new transom did not make me feel very good at all. Mine was installed where the old one was taken off. Just where Lyod said.

Interesting, I tried mine there and changed the heights and tried it outboard from there about 3" in from the next chine but just couldn't stop the bubbles from interfering at anything above 1200 rpm (what ever that speed really is) I think about 4knots.

As Ikan said, the water temp is not accurate of course. I guess I could buy a paddle wheel with temp and mount it where the transducer was..

Anyone got a Humminbird wheel and temp they don't need?

Anyway, it works where I have it so I am happy with it now.

Hey guys.....the Garmin transducer has some 20+ ft of cable attached with the adapter on the end. The adapter is approx 3/4" diam. and the cable is maybe a 1/4"! I really don't want to drill a 3/4" hole if you know what I mean. Do ya'll cut the adapter off and reattach or what?

It's my understanding that you can not cut and slice the transducer cable. If you cut it, it's dead :(
