Battery Cables

I need a 8' long battery cable, can I bolt two 4' sections and heat shrink the connection?

Re: Battery Cables

Go to your local welding supply shop and buy 1/0
or 2/0 cable from them. Solder on the copper ends and use red heat shrink to identify the positive cable.
Splicing could cause a current lose.

See ya, Ken

Ken is right. You can even buy 2/0 at most Home Depot stores. It ain't cheap, however, at $9 to $10 per foot for single-conductor tinned aluminum cable. But it's definitely the way to go. AWG 2/0 two conductor cable from Pittsburg Wire is really good quality stuff.

Et23, Quit screwing around splicing battery cables. You and your Seacraft deserve better. Do yourself a favor and checkout

http://shop.genuinedealz.com/Marine%...ttery%20Cable/

You order what you'll need send them a separate e-mail with instructions anda couple of days later you'll have the best cables you've ever seen, and money left over for beer, err, gas. They are excellent. Top quality boat cable - tinned copper. Their prices are better than port supply wholesale and they'll cut, crimp your lugs, and heat shrink as few or many connections as you want for $.99 each end. They are fast and accurate. They're based in Brunswick GA. They got my stuff to San Diego CA in 3 day UPS ground. Honestly, I think it's one of the best groups I've ever dealt with. Check it out - I think you'll be pleased. ;)

Re: Battery Cables

I ordered from them also, quality work, decent prices and they custom cut cables to order with whatever lugs you want.

et23,
Unless your running a diesel or a thruster, 1/0 should do you. How does $85 sound for 8' of red and black? Pacer Marine, REAL marine cable. Darn close to Ancor cable. Let me know. Need lugs?
