Semi Resto of Seafari
 

New to CSC, Thought I would share pics of my 1972 Seafari that I am doing a semi resto on. I purchased boat earlier this year from former CSC member, who already had transom professionaly redone. I am now in the process of repainting and then will install all new purchased hardware, glass///etc..etc..I am using interlux (used it on my old Chris Craft with good results) roll and tip method..I am working on a budget so I am doing the work myself when time and money permits. I have been snooping around this site and have gotten some great ideas etc that I will utilize on my project...all of the projects on here blow my mind with the skill and money :eek: involved.

Nice work Fred - That's gonna be a nice looking Seafari! That windshield looks to be in great shape; much less corrosion than mine! Gillie will be real interested in your door project - I believe he has to completely redo his! Denny

Hi Fred, saw bushwacker and Seafari on the same post so I had to look... Looks nice -- love that blue, Is your door frame Starboard? going with composite door, too? Nice. I made a frame out of mahogany - not done yet, been scattered with my projects -- kinda hopin' they'll all come together at once... I'm starting to think my windshield is not original...no vents, oh well.

Looking good, look forward to more pics down the road. How did you fill the rod holder holes on the gunwales? I'd like to patch a couple but unsure of the process. - McGill

Hey McGillicuddy,

Get yourself a PortAlign drill attachment.

Remove a rodholder and measure the same diameter as the rodholder tube. Next, determine the angle of the rodholder from horizontal and set the PortAlign up to cut/drill at the same angle.

Determine how thick thick the coring is at the gunnel and cut/drill yourself some plywood plugs and then glass them into the holes which you want to fill.

Make sure you glass in a backing plate and finish. DONE!

Looks great, really like the color. Not sure if you need new door or just the frame. I made my seafari door from the Jamestown Dist. kit. You buy the top and side rails and slats, then cut to fit. I chose to coat with Cetol. Seems ok and my woodworking skills are average. Put the Perko handle set on which is not very impressive but servicable.

Hello all..thanks for the compliment..Denny I still have to meet with you at the Sandbar.McGill....I used a pvc product for the cuddy door frame that I picked up at HomeDepot which is really easy to work with and for this application seemed the easiest and most economical way to go....I didnt have much remaining of the old door frame so I just looked at pictures fo other seafaris and sort of came up with a design that would work.(framed it out like a regular house door..I purchased a bifold teak door off of ebay and had to cut to fit opening (picked up for 20 dollars)....I used plywood encapsilated with resin under gunnels and then fiberglass with epoxy for top...3 layers of cloth cut in circles overlapping to fill in rod holders. Rhody98...wow nice door...wish I would have known about kit...should have gone with full door instead of bifold but I am on such a tight budget...knob looks great as very secure
