Thru - hull leaks

This MUST have happened before. My '78 sceptre is taking some water through the deck drain through hulls. It got past the caulking, rotted through the backing block and voila, its in the bottom of the boat.

What's the best thinking on these through hulls? The plastic part is cheezy and scary. I can seal up the wood blocking with some epoxy, bury the little plastic things in a lot of 5200 and hope for the best, but I'd sure rather have some bronze threaded parts that put some pressure on the caulking. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

I am not sure if yours are like the one's on a 20' c/c or not but I replaced my thru hulls with the brass units that you flange with a flanging tool and 5200.

If your referring to the scuppers here's a link to Bushwackers process on is Seafari. I believe Bigshrimpin used PVC for his re-tubing

Thanks, I got some input from here and others. In the end, I took a bunch of ideas and did this. I used a PVC electrical conduit with a flared end, inserted it into the hole from the bottom. With a little well placed duct tape, the hole is plugged from the bottom and there is a 1/8 " gap all around. I poured epoxy down the outside, using the pvc as a form, much like Bushwhacker's rig. but the pvc is easily removed without drilling, leaving a 1 1/8" smooth hole of epoxy. I'm going to put in the brass insert bedded with 5200. Thanks again for the help and suggestions!

Sounds good, did you take any pics of the process and result? Love to see it.
